MONTECCHIA DI CROSARA
Chiesa di Montecchia di Crosara

It is a village of roman origin. As the other neighbouring villages its history is characterized of a series of different signories: the Maltraverso, the Scaligeri and the Visconti.
The oldest built-up area is Crosara (crossing of different streets of the village and of the most important rivers). At Bastia, Montecchia's little hamlet, took place in 1439 an important fighting during which the Venetians defeated the leader of Visconti's dynasty, Niccolo' Piccinino.
The most interesting historic-artistic attraction of the village is the del Salvatore church at Castello, indoors there are still some frescos and some wooden statues of different ages and a crypt, divided in little naves, supported by roman capitals.

On the same hill in the past stood the Castle, destroyed by Guelphs and by Ghibellines during their conflicts, and lately it was razed during a fight between Scaligeri and Vinciguerra of San Bonifacio.
Not far off the Castle there is a church with a front in the gothic style, it is dedicated to St.Peter and St.Blaise.
Montecchia is a rural area, where many famous products like the wine are cultivated: "the Soave","the Durello", olive oil, cereals and cherries.
The subsoil is characterised of many basalt quarries and thin layers.
